Kangana Ranaut, as we meet her on her 28th birthday, is all brightness - the glow of the success of her 2014 release 'Queen', the happiness of returning to the 'Tanu Weds Manu' family, with which she started the journey of her rising up in the real sense and the brightness of her birthday.
And the 'Queen's birthday should be celebrated in style. Probably, that's why director Aanand L Rai decided to gift his lead actress the ultimate gift of launching the first look and motion poster of the sequel on her birthday.
One of the poshest resorts of New Delhi was the venue and was converted to a wedding event complete with shamiyana and food arrangements. So, there were gol-gappas and chaat for the waiting journos.
The guests - team of 'Tanu Weds Manu' including Kangana Ranaut, R Madhavan, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar, Jimmy Sheirgill, Eijaz Khan, director Aanand L Rai, writer Himanshu Sharma and producer Krishika Lulla - arrived in style, in their movie avatars only - Tanu, Manu, Pappi Bhaiyya, Payal and others. Kangana then cut a two-tier cake in the presence of media and her movie's unit.
Kangana's birthday was, indeed, made special doing something as special as launching the first look and motion poster of a movie which counts among the first hits of her career. 'Queen' that released last year upped what 'Tanu Weds Manu' did four years back. Quiz her, then, about which role she can relate to more, Kangana replies, "I have been 'Queen' at some point of my life. So there's definitely a bit of 'Queen' in me. There's also a bit of Tanu in me. I have always been a rebel in my life. And Tanu is also a rebel. 'Donon hi role mere dil ke kareeb hain'."
Talking about Anand L Rai, the director of the movie, Kangana says, "I've shared a special relationship with all my directors. But if I talk about Anand ji, he gave me a platform at a time when I was nobody. I bagged the script when I had no work in the industry and it turned out to be an unexpected hit. It was a first film of its kind which despite having small-budget became a hit."
The launch was planned by Aanand Rai as he wanted to gift Kangana something special. Kangana, however, opines, "It was a co-incidence actually. We were planning a party in Mumbai. But then the film's release date was preponed. The film was supposed to release in June. But now it will release in May. Anand ji suggested releasing the poster on my birthday."
And she was elated on receiving such a gift. "I'm very happy. Unlike the usual birthday plans, I'm thrilled to promote 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' as it is really special for me. The film depicts the real life of a husband and wife which viewers have hardly seen in Bollywood. The intensity and humour used to reveal the contemporary and complex relationship in this film is very special," she added.
Director Aanand L Rai said it was an "emotional and exciting" journey to helm the project after four years.
"The film shows how the characters have grown up in these four years. The new script starts where the last one ends. The only difference is that we have two Kanganas this time. The whole unit is like a family to me," said the director, who is planning to launch the movie's trailer in Mumbai on April 7.
R Madhavan, who is returning to Bollywood after a gap of three years, says, "The movie revolves around the complexities in contemporary relationships. How these smart phones today play a major role in making or breaking a relationship."

As the film focuses on marriage and it's after effects, a specially decorated stage -- like those in weddings -- was set up at the event.
Although Kangana is playing a married woman in the film, the talented actress has no intentions to settle down in her real life anytime soon. "The one per cent eagerness that I used to have about marriage is gone after looking at this film. People will get shocked after viewing the ruined life of Tanu and Manu. After this film, I have gone back to my happily single days," she quipped.
